Canterbury is obnoxiously festive at the moment. I'd prefer not to go near the place, but Mother had some manner of something that required sacrificing an evening to mulled wine and small children warbling. The one was slightly more enjoyable than the other, but only slightly. To cap it all off, she's declared that our Christmas Eve high tea will be intimate - or more specifically, family only. Someone better be having the interesting parties, because Kent's the new capital of tedium.

[Piper]
Though apparently you are "practically family" and I should bring you along. Frankly I shouldn't blame you if you didn't fancy it - it's almost a certainty Uncle Martin will be there - but bearable company would be welcome.

[Rhys]
Finishing my Christmas shopping early seems to have left me with some free time. Whatever shall I do with it?

I would take advantage of any golden opportunity to get out of the house, to be honest. I'm having trouble mastering a grand jeté and after that Uncle Martin would be a grand reprieve.

I'm assuming this is something to do with the dancing lessons. No performance of the Nutcracker, then?

I feel myself slowly dying inside every time I get into first position.

Having no idea what first position is, my snappy comebacks here are limited to those too laden with cheap innuendo for me to actually commit any of them to parchment. What are you supposed to be achieving, apart from the obvious crushing of your spirit?

Unfortunately for you and the plethora of innuendos available to you, first position requires the least amount of flexibility of all the positions. My fucking brothe It's been brought to their attention that my posture has moved from graceful to abysmal in the months I've been away.

Really? I hadn't noticed a problem. Maybe I haven't been looking closely enough.

There's nothing wrong with my posture. "That a few weeks of ballet can't permanently improve". Who am I to argue with my superiors?

I could try inciting you to argue with your superiors, but I can hardly be bothered to argue with mine.

In any case, I'll pay particular attention. We may find benefits, hidden or otherwise.

Get me out of this house and I'll show you that I'm a quick study.

It's chaos here today. But tea tomorrow's from four. Come early. We'll need your help getting ready. Or at least, I will.

I'll be there at noon. I'm sure you can find more than one way to entertain me until tea time.

Then I'm describing it incorrectly.

Festive plans amongst the family Nott?

In any case, she's not here.

A lesson you have little firsthand experience with, I'm sure.

I'm waiting for a personal invitation.

Step into my parlour?

Or actually, I was thinking the library, but there aren't such interesting poetic allusions. I've already been spending hours in the library without being bothered at all, and Father's got in a rather sumptuous carpet since August.

I ask in the name of scientific enquiry. I have a theory I want to test about just how good you'd look lying naked on said carpet.

So are you coming or not?
