006// it's not as though it isn't educational
Such a charming rash of recent ridiculousness that I can only assume stupidity is contagious and spreading at a rate that would be alarming if I could summon any sort of surprise at the susceptibility of the general populace to infection.

And I include in that sweeping generalisation our dried-up librarian and her officious habits. It seems I will now be ordering my own more interesting reading matter in so I can peruse it at my own damn leisure, not hers, so if anyone else wants to be involved in that, let me know.

[Piper Flint]
Since I don't intend to engage in any extraneous and frivolous school socialising unless provided with a compelling reason - like, say, your company - I assume I won't be attending this appalling Ball, which is frankly something of a relief. Care to confirm?

I'm not that immature. You don't want to go and I don't want to make you.

I've never truly objected to any event, however mundane, in the right company.

Actually, I meant why aren't you mad at me anymore.

No, of course I didn't. Though I admit to a certain curiosity. But we could sit here all night throwing is/isn't back and forth like firstyears. Believe me or don't. I'm not lying anymore. Not to you.

There's no point in being mad at you. You were -- are -- one of my best friends, you know. You hurt me. That sucks. I've moved on. You're alright with what you did, so there's no point in dwelling on it.

Anyway. We're on speaking terms. So stop saying things like that.

Again? Careful, people really will start to talk.

No. Apparently she's had a better offer. Which rather frees me from having to put up with the event at all.

My mother will be pleased with the scandal, my father with the possibility I'm courting, and Elena with not being rejected.

I see.

Well, when you find yourself summarily engaged in all but deed, I will laugh and say I told you so.

It may still transpire that there's more fun to be had in attending. I'm remaining flexible on this.

It's very true. But the latent complaint has flared into virulent display in the past few weeks. Like a particularly pernicious rash. Very grateful I don't have to play nurse. Having any luck keeping them in line?

The book-issues have been somewhat definitive. Which is probably indicative of the general recent excitement of my school life. Still, such preoccupation saves me from having to give the Valentine-obsessed the clip around the ear they're clearly in desperate need of.
