Gave the wider student body it's one usual chance per school year. Squandered by a bundle of fifth years arguing about where Brazil was. Three of them had the right longitudinal hemisphere, at least, but that's hardly sufficient. However it did take an hour and thirty-three minutes before that happened, which is a good seventeen minutes longer than last year. Congratulations, Hogwarts. You're either getting marginally less stupid or better at hiding it.

Not that my own house is precisely leading any sort of valiant charge. Whoever left that paperback in the common room? You won't be getting it back. It has such a paucity of anything resembling merit that I've intervened for your own sake.

Surely, you can't expect the student body to be able to walk and breathe simultaneously and know rudimentary geography. Your standards are set too high.

I have indeed been told that I am "completely fucking unreasonable". I'm thinking perhaps I might find some tasteful way of incorporating that into the family coat of arms.

Translate it into Latin. Latin, Italian, French, those three languages make everything sound romantic and harmless.

Which is why I prefer German, which makes everything sound dire and threatening. Vollständig unvernünftig. So much more satisfying.

Why aren't there more blokes out there like you?

I killed the rest of them. Competition's intolerable.

You're intimidating enough that this might actually be plausible.

Should the unthinkable happen, I trust you'll provide me with an alibi.

Word in the halls is the only reason Kinsey Bole isn't in Azkaban is because man who administers the Veritaserum kept... disappearing.

This is also plausible.

I wouldn't want him as my enemy, that's for certain.

And didn't ask me to help hide the body? I thought we were friends.

Dare I ask for the title of that paperback?

I couldn't quite make it out and I didn't try very hard. The writing was very florid. Something-or-other Captive, I think.

If you tell me it was yours, Liam, I will lose the modicum of respect I was still nursing for you.

Hahahaha!

I would never leave it in the Common Room if it was mine, Kin, but I never read rubbish so it most definitely isn't mine.

Okay, fine. Do you think you could help me with the Runes translations for this week? I've got most of them, but one is giving me a hard time and everyone knows you're the best in the class.

The commonroom's rather common, but the couch in front of the fire's so very comfortable. We can't have the third years getting complacent about their ownership of it, can we?
